The H. Upmann Cigars were first produced in 1844. They are named after its founder, Herman Upmann who fell in love with Havana cigars. As a banker, Upmann was given the opportunity to open a bank branch in Havana, Cuba.

Soon after moving to Cuba he set up business as both a banker and a producer of cigars. Until 1922 the company traded as both a bank and cigar company. Between 1862 and 1893 the brand won seven gold medals at international exhibitions. H. Upmann cigars are available in a range of both handmade and machine made variations.
